History of Solar PV Technology
French Physicist, Alexandra Edmund Becquerel, discovered the physics behind the solar cell in 1839.
Bell Laboratories then went on to create the silicone solar cell in 1954, enabling NASA to send their first solar powered satellite into space just 4 years later. It remains up there to this present day; harnessing the inexhaustible source of sunlight in space. Since then, this renewable energy source has gone from strength-to-strength and is now the cheapest source of power in more than 30 countries worldwide.
Why Choose Solar Power?
Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Panels harness the power of daylight and convert it into electricity to power your home or business. If you’re considering solar panel installation, our experts can provide you with all the answers you need and source the best solution for your individual needs. The Bright Sparks team will select, design, install and manage the most suitable renewable electricity system for your property – whether domestic, commercial or industrial.
We have an excellent reputation for providing value for money, impeccable customer service and high quality installations. We only use the most efficient Solar PV systems, meaning our customers generate more energy through renewable sources, leading to a cleaner planet and better returns from the government’s energy cash-back scheme (FIT – Feed-in Tariff). We’re also experts in live retro-fitting, so there does not need to be any interruptions to your day-to-day operations.
Solar technology is a rewarding investment for both the present day and the future; saving you money right from its installation and for at least the next 20 years. Solar Panels can be installed on all roof types, whether small or large including tiles, slate, metal, flat roofs or ground-mounted. We can custom design panels for more unusual roofing requirements and combine solar power with our electric car charging systems. Solar energy is booming worldwide, as solar panel costs continue to come down in price; it is well worth investing in this energy source of the future!
The Benefits of Generating Your Own Energy
Solar panels are a fantastic way to generate a tax-free income, offering a return, that will rise in line with inflation. You can expect to reduce your energy bills by up to 50% and get paid up to £245 a year with the government’s FIT scheme. This not only pays you for the electricity you generate but enables you to sell the electricity you don’t use back to the grid, earning you an additional 3p per kW.
Panels have a typical lifetime of 25-30 year’s and require minimal maintenance other than an inspection for dirt and debris a few times a year. You are not only reducing your outgoings instantly but protecting yourself against rising energy costs in the future. Also, despite popular misconceptions that they need sunshine to work efficiently, panels designed for European countries generate power even on cloudy days.
As a highly reliable form of clean, green, renewable energy, you will also be doing your bit for the environment. A solar PV system can save over a tonne of CO2 a year, as it does not release any carbon dioxide into the atmosphere! So not only are you better off but you will also be mitigating against climate change.
What is the FIT Energy Cash Back Scheme?
The UK Government is committed to decreasing our dependence on fossil and nuclear fuels and promoting the uptake of renewable and low-carbon electricity generation technologies. The Feed-in Tariffs (FIT) scheme stipulates that energy companies must pay a premium for all energy produced by Solar PV systems, whether consumed at your property or exported back to the grid. This is also guaranteed by the Government for 20 years and we expect it to increase, as we are forced to rely more on renewable energy sources and protecting our planet becomes more and more prevalent.
FIT gives three seperate financial benefits:
• Generation Tariff: Your energy supplier will pay you a set rate for each unit (or kWh) of electricity you generate. Solar is presently around 29.3 to 41.3p/kWh.
• Export Tariff: Your energy supplier will pay you a further rate of 3p/kWh for each unit you export back to the grid; enabling you to sell any electricity you generate but don’t use.
• Energy Bill Savings: Generating electricity to power your appliances means you don’t need to buy as much electricity from your energy supplier. The amount you save will vary depending how much of the electricity you use.
Tariffs are paid for 20 years, depending on the type and size of the system used and on all the technologies up to 5 megawatts. These tariffs should cover the initial capital cost of installation and, according to the Government, earn a return up to 8% per annum. In practice, this means you should earn back the capital cost at least two to three times over the duration of the tariff.
